Purpose and Scope: This is a guide for the selection, acquisition, maintenance, and de-selection of items in the Adult Nonfiction Collection. Nonfiction is the broadest category of literature. Essentially, anything that is not fiction belongs in this collection. Items range widely from generalities to biography/memoir to history to how-to. Selection of resources includes acquiring new bestsellers as well as older “classic” books to maintain a comprehensive, diverse, balanced, and up-to-date collection. The Adult Nonfiction Collection is aligned with the Library’s strategic plan and its purpose is to meet the evolving educational, information, and recreational needs of the Ridgefield community.

The Nonfiction Collection includes materials in a variety of formats including print (books, magazines, and newspapers), audiobooks, digital books (eBooks and eAudiobooks), and online databases. 


Shelf Location: The Nonfiction Collection is located in Adult Services. It includes the Dewey Decimal Classification numbers from 000 to 999 and Biography.
