FICTION NEWS is a monthly staff created reader's advisory newsletter. Newly released items, highlighted selections and staff picks are thoughtfully chosen to show you exactly what the Ridgefield Library is making available to readers. 

This month, we'll take a look at Han King, the 2024 winner of the Novel Prize in Literature. A In the words of the Swedish Academy: "The Nobel Prize in Literature for 2024 is awarded to Han Kang “for her intense poetic prose that confronts historical traumas and exposes the fragility of human life.” Her newest book, We Do Not Part, will be out in January 2025.

Author in the Spotlight this month is Haruki Murakami. His new release, The City and It's Uncertain Walls, is a great example of the stories he writes, where the appeal lies in his characters and storylines, both of which seamlessly melds the mundane and the surreal.

NONFICTION NEWS

NONFICTION NEWS is a monthly published, cultivated list of nonfiction titles, biographies and memoirs new to our shelves. 

New to us in November and December are some interesting biographies and memoirs on Bill Clinton, Queen Elizabeth, George Harrison, Monet, and Melania Trump.

We also have a "Home & Holiday" themed list of new titles that should help you prepared for the upcoming holiday season.

LIBRARY BOOK GROUPS

The Ridgefield Library offers a wide variety of library  run book groups to help you not only find your next best read, but to also help create connections between members of the community that have similar interests. Veteran book club goers, people looking for a new author or interested in a new genre, and new members of the community can all gather and chat. New members welcome to join!

Book Group Information

  • Book selections are fiction, mostly classic fiction titles.  
  • Meets the fourth Wednesday of each month at 10 AM.
  • Hybrid option for meetings available.
  • Check out the upcoming meetings here.

  • Book selections are mostly contemporary and classic fiction, with occasional works of compelling non-fiction.
  • Meets on the second Tuesday of each month, at 6:30 PM.
  • In-person meetings.

  • Book selections alternate each month between Science Fiction and Fantasy titles.
  • Meets the third Thursday of each month at 6 PM.
  • In-person meetings.

  • Romance book selections are read each month, with a focus on different subgenres or tropes.
  • Meets the third Wednesday of each month, at 6:00 PM.
  • In person meetings.

  • Selections sample a wide range of mysteries, thrillers and various other crime stories. 
  • Meets the first Thursday of each month, at 10:30 AM.
  • In person meetings.
