The National Passport Information Center (NPIC) is once again offering expedited service. As of late November 2021, expedited passports take 5-7 weeks and normal processing time is 8-11 weeks.
Local Passport agencies and centers can assist customers who need a passport in the next 72 hours (3 business days) for a life-or-death emergency. Customers must make an appointment for life-or-death emergency service by contacting the NPIC and cannot walk in to passport agencies or centers.
Customers can check the status of their application online at https://www.travel.state.gov or by calling NPIC at 1-877-487-2778.
