Renewing Your Passport

Renew Online or by Mail

If your last passport was a 10-year passport and it has been expired for less than five years, use the renewal form DS-82 and send to the Passport Services address on the form. 

All forms (DS-11DS-3053, etc.) may be downloaded at travel.state.gov or picked up at the Post Office or the Library’s Circulation Desk. 


Renew In-person 

  • If this is a first-time passport
  • If you were 15 or younger when your most recent passport was issued
  • If your passport was issued more than 15 years ago

Fees

Ridgefield Library Fees

We do not accept cash or credit.

The check payable to: RIDGEFIELD LIBRARY

$35 per application and one check for multiple application fees is accepted.

U.S. Department of State Fees

Check payable to: U.S. DEPARTMENT OF STATE for each application

Adult (16+): $130

Children (under 15): $100

Expedite Fee: Add $60 per application. Please ask during your appointment about the most up-to-date delivery rate and time frame.

What to Bring

  • One passport photo
  • DS-11 form filled out completely in black ball point pen
  • Original birth certificate (with raised seal) OR naturalization certificate for first time applicants
  • Social Security card (if you can find it); otherwise, Social Security number written on the application correctly
  • Valid driver’s license for ages 17 and over
  • Out-of-state driver’s license (other than CT, NY, MA, or RI) must submit a second form of Photo ID
  • Old passport, if renewing
  • Personal or bank checks: one for each application and one for the Library’s processing fee. Checks will be filled out during the appointment.
  • Proof of name change (marriage certificate, court order for name change or divorce decree)
  • Ages 16 and 17: Bring your own photo ID, and bring one parent/guardian to identify you
  • One passport photo
  • DS-11 form filled out completely in black ball point pen
  • Original birth certificate (with raised seal) OR naturalization certificate
  • Social Security card (if you can find it) otherwise social security number written on the application correctly.
  • Both parents/legal guardian must be present. If one parent cannot be present, you will need to submit a DS-3035 form (notarized written consent by non-appearing parent with a copy of the photo identification shown to the notary), passport photo page, or his/her driver’s license (front and back on one piece of paper, on one side of the paper).
  • Old passport book and/or passport card, if renewing
  • Personal or bank checks: one for each application and one for the Library’s processing fee 
  • We not not accept credit cards or cash

Expediting Your Passport

The National Passport Information Center (NPIC) offers expedited service. 

Expedited Timeframe: 2-3 weeks from receipt of application

Routine Processing: 6-8 weeks from receipt of application

Expedite Fee

  • Additional $60 per application.
  • Please ask during your appointment about the most up-to-date delivery rate and time frame.

Emergency Expedition

Local Passport agencies and centers can assist customers who need a passport in the next 72 hours (3 business days) for a life-or-death emergency. Customers must make an appointment for life-or-death emergency service by contacting the NPIC and cannot walk in to passport agencies or centers.
